But You Said You Love Me

I was alone
And loneliness
was a close friend
I was resigned
And to fate
I gave the upper hand

Then you came
Offering more that I could take
Tempt me
with the sweetest emotion I couldn't shake
But I refused
Oh! how I tried

But you said you love me...

I gave in to need
I surrender to want
I rejoice every moment
That I'm in your arms

Though doubts kept creeping in
Self or otherwise
I know tears would be the end
But I risk for I'm scared
Of being on my own

But you said you love me...

You were sure
Of what you feel
Of what we had
You were happy
And I was made too

Then you retired
To your own self doubt
What if it's not enough
Or maybe it's too much
I'm left alone
To figure things on my own

But you said you love me...
