My First School Morning

She opens her eyes. It's a new day. The sun is shining brightly through the sheer curtain at the window. Mother hang the curtain some weeks back. It has little butterflies in different colours flying around.

She turns her head to the left. Mr Beary is staring back at her smiling. His face is full of joy. Raggedy Ann beside him is staring into space and smiling too. She promises to them that they will have a tea party that evening. She has to get up, wash her face, brush her teeth, take her bath and prepare for school. She has a big smile on her face.

It's her first day to school. She can't wait to meet new friends.

She got up from her bed. Mother taught her to make her own bed. So, she fluff her pillows and pull the sheets. She folds the blanket and put it at the end of the bed. Then, she sits Mr Beary and Raggedy Ann at the center of her pillows.

She turns quickly when she hears her bedroom door being open. Mother is rushing in quickly, tears in her eyes. Mother picks her up and runs out again. Father and Brother are not at the breakfast table. She asks what is wrong Mother? Mother is not answering.

She sees Aunty from the house next door rushing to the gate and shouting something. Aunty is asking Mother to run faster. She turns her her head back and remembers Mr Beary and Raggedy Ann. She cannot leave them in the house. They are having tea party this evening! She has promised!
She wriggles in Mother's arms. But Mother is holding her tightly, still running. She then hears loud sounds. Terrible sounds. Things are exploding everywhere. Kids are screaming. Suddenly she sees Best Friend lying at the roadside with her father. She calls them out. But they are not moving. Best Friend has red liquid under her small body. She asks again what is wrong Mother?

Mother keeps on running. Where is Father? Where is Brother? Aunty is weeping. Loudly. The hospital is near, Aunty says. The hospital is a safe place. They reach the hospital. Aunty is turning around and around calling for a doctor.

She looks at Mother and look down at Mother's hand. Because Mother is only holding her with one hand. She cannot see Mother's other hand. She falls down with Mother. Mother is losing too much blood, she hears Nurse telling Aunty.

Suddenly she hears people screaming everywhere in the hospital She asks again , What's wrong? Then everything went black. She couldn't see Aunty or Nurse. She couldn't hear the painful scream or the terrible exploding. She couldn't feel the floor underneath her feet, or is it underneath her body? She is not here anymore...
